ASUUpdates: ASUU suspends 8 months industrial strike, sets to resume academic studies.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has suspended its eight-month industrial action. Students are to resume disrupted academic duties subsequently.

The union came to its decision at the end of the National executive Council (NEC) meeting which was held at the ASUU secretariat in Abuja from Thursday 13th October 2022 night into the early hours of Friday, October 14th.

The meeting comes after a list of academic bodies were made to vote in support or against calling the strike off in which majority wanted to call off the strike. The court of appeal ruling had ordered ASUU to call off the strike and that was why the meeting was held, to determine the next line of action. NO definite date has been circulated for resumption although there are strong speculations it would be on Monday 17th October, 2022.

Although the strike has been “suspended”, it shouldn’t be forgotten that it is with conditions and that the word used was “suspended” not “called off”, keep this in mind.
