It is unknown what ignited the fire, which is said to have started around midnight.
Two blocks of businesses in the Kano Street sector of the market, according to trader Obenta Jude, have already been destroyed by the blaze. While attempting to remove some belongings from the premises before the arrival of the firefighters, onlookers were able to stop the fire from spreading further.
He claimed that despite the fire crews’ best efforts, the fire kept burning despite their quick arrival at the scene.
Fire Chief Engr Martin Agbili confirmed the occurrence and added that as soon as he was informed, his guys were quickly rushed to the area.

“However, we sent a fire truck and firefighters to the fire scene, where they’ve been working ever since. They have made three trips to refill the fire truck.
