Franca Afegbua, Nigeria’s First Female Senator, Passes Away At Age 79

In a statement released on Sunday, the Afegbua family shared the news of Senator Franca Afegbua’s passing.

The sad occurrence occurred this morning, Sunday, March 12, 2023, according to the Afegbua family of Edo State. Senator Franca Afegbua was the country’s first female senator. While serving Nigeria, she successfully merged intelligence and beauty. The family promised to make announcements regarding the funeral shortly.

In the second republic of Nigeria, she was chosen by the National Party of Nigeria to represent Bendel-north as a senator in October 1983. Afegbua, 79, was a native of Okpella, a town in the former Bendel state’s Etsako-east LGA that has since been divided between Edo and Delta states.

However, her political career was short-lived since the civilian administration was overthrown less than three months after her inauguration by the military coup of December 1983.
