Government Isn’t Responsible For Creating Jobs – Adesina

It is not the duty of the government to create jobs, according to Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity.

This was said by Adesina during a Tuesday interview on Arise Television.

When discussing the accomplishments of the Buhari administration over the past eight years, Adesida pointed out that all the government does is create an environment that encourages job creation while the private sector does the actual job creation.

Adesina questioned whether 3 million jobs will be created annually in 2015 in response to President Buhari’s pledge. He didn’t put a figure, in my opinion. I seem to remember that President Buhari stated the percentage of unemployed people in the nation.

I don’t believe he mentioned a precise number for the number of jobs we are creating. You never know where that could have come from.

Whatever the case, creating a conducive environment for employment in the nation is the government’s responsibility. Government agencies do not by themselves create jobs. All it does, he said, is create a supportive environment.

Adesina pointed out, however, that Buhari has made progress in every area, including infrastructure, security, legislative issues, and the oil and gas industry.

The majority of the jobs that a nation needs would come from the private sector, he asserted. The private sector will produce jobs as long as the atmosphere is favorable.
